During my 23-day journey to commemorate twenty-five years of marriage I reflect on... Matrimony. Mess. Love. Tears. Suffering. Joy. Babies. Toddlers. School age years. Teen years. Cutting. Drugs. Graduations. College. Our daughters boyfriends. Puppies. Our housing crisis. Bankruptcy. Success. Failure. Success. Sex. Love. Solidarity. Isolation. Unity. Divisions. Connections. Ultimate sacrifice. And the non-sacrifice of marriage moments leading to this day. The painstaking challenge of staying emotionally and physically connected while dealing with the intense stress of parenting, work and trying to take care of ourselves in the middle of it all. And here we are still standing, still smiling and staring out at this view in Bellagio, Italy. How is this possible? It's like a dream, but here we are still struggling, still smiling. And this, this Five Italian City trip is all possible because of the intense love of my mate who is still passionate about our love and the desire to always learn, enjoy and grow as an artist regardless of the struggle involved. This intense passion he has for his art inspires my art as well, writing. My writing is revived through this commemorative journey. I have been able to re-boot my passion for my art and my love for him has also been revived by experiencing the care, concern and constant attention to detail he took in preparing for this special trip of a lifetime.
