I am deeply humbled by the over 160 positive comments I have received since my article, "The Buddhist Bet", went live online last month and was printed in the summer 2020 Tricycle magazine.
While it is deeply emotional and painful to write about surviving childhood abuse, it also brings me joy that the memoir manuscript I am still working on can encourage others who have gone through tremendous adversity in their youth, as I did.
My mission as a writer and educator is to publish and share widely how I have used all of my suffering to create happiness - a cornerstone piece of philosophy that has been ingrained in my brain since I started practicing Nichiren Buddhism with the SGI International in 1974. The cornerstone concept is this: I can, through prayer and action, turn any poison to medicine.
